Heaven Gate Mountain is only 8 kilometers away from the downtown of Zhangjiajie City. It has an elevation of 1,518.6 meters and the height is 1,380 meters. This mountain is very special as a natural cave appeared on the mid mountain and formed wonderful scenery in the world. The cave named Heaven Gate Cave is 150 meters high and 30 meters wide. It not only attracts people by its unique landscape, but is also well known for its rich culture. As the soul and spirit of Zhangjiajie, it is reputed as the No.1 miraculous mountain in this area.

In 1999, some excellent pilots created new world record in Tianmen Mountain. These pilots navigated aircrafts passing through Tianmen Cave. It was the first time that people flew through the cave. Heaven Gate Mountain cableway has been built. It is 7,455 meters long and 1,279 meters high. It will take passengers half hour to ride from the bottom to the top.
