The Suyu spring (the garden of Baotu Spring) is not far from the Cang Garden in Jinan Baotu Spring, Shandong Province. It has clear blue water like bright mirror gushes out from the ground in the northeast direction. It is one of the 72 famous springs appraised and selected by local experts of Jinan. The willow trees could be found all around the spring where the spring water is limpid and clear. When the flowing water strikes the stone, it makes sound like jade sound in the running water.
The renowned female excellent poet, Li Qingzhao (Song Dynasty) once lived here. In "Suyu Collection", the "Su Yu" two characters are vivid and so this spring was named the Suyu Spring. Li Qingzhao (1084-1155?) is also known as Yianjushi. She is a renowned female excellent poet (Southern Song Dynasty) in Jinan, so is the daughter of the renowned scholar, Li Gefei. She married Zhao Mingcheng (the son of Prime Minister Zhao Ting) when she was 18 years old and lead a happy life .The Song family moved to the south in the reign of Songqin emperor (A.D 1126). She dwelled in the south but soon her husband died of illness. She solitarily drifted to Hangzhou,Yuezhou and Jinhua area. She was lonely and suffering at old age. She wrote the affecting poetry to expresses her missing the husband her and native land as well as her disaffection of the Southern Song Dynasty corrupt politics and cowardly rules.
There is Li Qingzhao memorial hall. The Li Qingzhao statue is situated on the entry of the gate. It exhibits the Li Qingzhao's entire life story introduction in the hall. The couplets hung in front of the hall: "Ming Dynasty lakeside, nearby Baotu Spring, the former dwelling in the Chongyang deep place, Suyu spring is in the center, the stone tablet and bronze records, the literary talent reflected the past host's eloquent".
